sand mud snow cycle
'to keep going until the end, setting one’s feet in tracks in sand, in mud, in snow'
to have a sentence. to seek its author. to find oneself in a seemingly endless multitude and randomness of travel and snow reports. into the overflowing. the impossibility of wanting to grasp this overflowing mass. to invent ways to grasp it, to sort it, to stack it. to invent interpretations, instructions for play. without giving up the open-endedness.
The score of the piece is a collection of text fragments, selected on the basis of the seven words ‘moving on’, ‘traces’, ‘foot’, ‘placing’, ‘sand’, ‘mud’, ‘snow’.
During the performance, each performer hears a specific voice reading the collection of text fragments. The voice recordings were made spontaneously; for the speakers, German is a foreign language, which helps to ensure that not too much meaning is placed on the language. Each individual’s reading pace determines the duration of the sounds and the layering of the instrumental sounds. The seven words trigger the onset and the sound.
