the piece is based on a composed pseudo-folk song. using this material, durations, rhythms, sounds, degrees of density, instrumental treatment, step patterns, gestures and action are composed.

the form of the piece is open. thus, ‘but the field song’ can take place as a full-length work on a stage, or in a spread-out form over the course of an entire day on a football pitch, in the night-time streets of a major city, or on a bare field in autumn.
